The sealant on curing forms a tough and flexible seal. It has excellent adhesion to concrete, brickwork, asphalt and most construction material substrates. The mastic sealant is modified with non asbestos fibres to make the sealant thixotropic and slump free when applied on vertical areas. This is because a wide range of black mastic products contain asbestos, a dangerous material that is known to cause mesothelioma, a life-threatening condition. During the mid 20th century, contractors used black mastics routinely as a glue-like flooring adhesive.

Always dilute acid in water, not vice versa, and ventilate the area. Remove paint, oil, grease, sealers, release agents, dirt, and grime from the concrete. Oils and grease stains can be easily cleaned with the use of our Novion Universal Concrete Cleaner. Remove paint by mechanical means or by use of our Lightning Strip Paint Stripper. Curing agents and sealers can be also removed with a floor grinder or scarifier.

I already have the slab pressure tested , moisture content tested , so I went ahead. I have no idea whether they would have tested the mastic or not. I just know that there are cases where the tiles are fine but the mastic contains asbestos.
